Book Lorna Shields

Lorna Shields runs award-winning children’s storytelling company ‘It’s in the bag’ with her sister Kirsty Shields and they delight in taking children’s imaginations on a magical adventure.

‘It’s in the bag’ are popular throughout Edinburgh within the children’s party setting from ages 0-6. They also perform shows throughout the year and have had 18 sell outs at the Scottish Storytelling Centre! They are also regulars in primary schools and nurseries, where their offering has clear links to the curriculum for excellence. All ‘It’s in the bag’ stories have been written by the sisters and many of the songs are their own creation too. They enjoy using rhyme, song, story and creative games alongside drama and puppetry to engage young audiences and make them part of the story.

Lorna was brought up in Edinburgh as one of four girls – the Dale sisters were quite often responsible for a song or two at family functions, and many a simple post dinner tidy up has turned into a choir as the sisters sang the jobs away. Years later the youngest two are continuing the tradition with ‘It’s in the bag’. Lorna is also developing her storytelling in schools on the topics of chickens and bees. As a keeper of both she can educate primary school children using stories along the way and field trips where appropriate.

‘It’s in the bag’ reviews: ‘Highly recommended’; ‘far and away the best party we’ve ever had, or been to for that matter!’; ‘Thoroughly professional and completely charming’.

Praise for Lorna: ‘It is reassuring when someone of Lorna’s capability comes forward, for you feel that you are placing the audience in safe hands’ (Michael Williams, storyteller and storycoach); ‘Lorna shines on stage and is able, via the medium of storytelling, to bring a joy and lightness to an audience’ (Janis Mackay, storyteller and author).
