Book Margaret Bennett
Margaret Bennett shares traditional Scottish Stories, traditions and lore, interspersed with a wide repertoire of Gaelic song. She also has many stories of emigration and of the Gaelic speakers of Canada.
Margaret performs with all age groups and teaches and lectures widely in Scottish traditional culture. Her engaging warmth and enthusiasm are equally at home in the classroom, community centre or ceilidh.
Margaret is from the Isle of Skye and comes from a long line of traditional bearers. Singing songs both in Gaelic and Scots since childhood, she has performed at folk festivals and concerts in several countries ranging from the Outer Hebrides to the Australian outback.
As a performer and collector of folklore, she has been involved in a wide variety of projects, including Glasgow Celtic Connections; Celtic Colours in Nova Scotia; Edinburgh International Festival; Pinewoods Folk Music Association; New York’s Christmas Revels; and the Ottawa Multicultural Festival.
Margaret Bennett holds an honorary Research Fellowship at the University of Glasgow School of Scottish and Celtic Studies and also teaches Folklore at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. From 1983 to 1995, she was a lecturer at Edinburgh University’s School of Scottish Studies.
