Robert Howat

Book Robert Howat

Robert is very interested in Scottish history, particularly the Jacobites. He tells a variety of fun and entertaining traditional folklore based tales and contemporary stories which are suited to many occasions, be it at weddings, corporate evenings or in schools.

As a writer and actor, Robert developed his own show, ‘Peach, Oscar and the Dragon’s Tears’ aimed at families, and has performed them as one man shows in theatres and school tours, then teamed up with Louna Productions to perform at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2016.

Having worked as a tour guide in Edinburgh’s Old Town, Robert is experienced with school groups and historical education visits. He enjoys telling stories to adults, young people and children, creating a rich descriptive environment within stories to stir and stimulate the listener’s imagination. He has also been known to dazzle with some sleight-of-hand magic.

Born in St Andrews in 1971, Robert Howat heard his first stories from his eccentric old grandmother and an old Irishman called Paddy who babysat for him – scurrilous tales about relatives and tales of the Bogeyman and the leprechauns. A Fifer who also lived for a time in West Lothian, he is now settled in Lanarkshire.
