Alison Clark likes to write and tell her own stories alongside the traditional tales of Scotland. She lives on the beautiful island of Bute – which is still within easy reach of Glasgow.

Alison was born in Paisley and studied Drama at the RSAMD (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland), after which she travelled around Scottish theatres, performing at several seasons in Perth and Pitlochry. She also was a member of the BBC’s Radio Repertory Company in London. After some years, she took over the family business – a Public House – for almost twenty years and during this time became a mature student at the Glasgow School of Art, where she graduated in 2001 with Honours.

Alison is a painter, silversmith and puppeteer and loves being part of the Bute island community.  Alison enjoys researching site-specific venues so she can write for and about them, for audiences of all ages. She also usually makes her own historically accurate costumes to wear while telling and has an extensive wardrobe of fantastical creations to create magical, atmospheric characters.

Alison loves to use puppets and music in her tales. She has now established The Triple Aspect Puppet Company – a not-for-profit social enterprise, performing original tales, and also holds workshops in puppet-making. She has recently become involved with “Crankie” making – a table-top shadow puppetry form that uses a moving, painted background to tell her stories to.  She also performs Punch and Judy, with booths created with her husband Ed Clark . Alison writes new adventures for Punch almost every time they perform and although Punch is a bit of a reformed character these days, he still manages to create mayhem. Alison also plays the ukulele, Celtic harp and the Dulcimer.
