FluteFling are delighted to announce a workshop weekend with Tom Oakes. As uncertain times continue, make some space and time for you and your music as Scottish Trad Awards nominee Tom guides you through ideas to develop your technique and repertoire on flutes and whistles.
Delivered over Zoom from his flat in Leith, the historic maritime hub of Edinburgh, the online workshops will take place over one single weekend with a morning and afternoon part of Saturday and Sunday.
Tom will teach by ear but sheet music will be provided and a recording available in advance.
The workshops are suitable for non-beginners who play:
~ Simple system wooden flutes (keyed and unkeyed, in D)
~ Boehm system flutes
~ Whistles in D
~ Low whistles in D

Saturday 24 April

In an extra workshop on Sunday, Tom will present a masterclass on making the most of keyed instruments within traditional music. The weekend opens with a stellar online concert with Tom and friends. Tickets for both of these are sold separately. See www.flutefling.co.uk for more details.
Practicalities: For all events, Zoom links will be emailed shortly in advance. For workshops, links to recordings and sheet music will be emailed approximately two weeks in advance.
Note on videos:
In order to accommodate attendees in different time zones and others who might not be able to make the live workshops for other reasons, the organisers will record the events on video. A Co-host will be on hand to record a limited-view version within Zoom. The videos will focus on Tom’s teaching and not the participants.
By purchasing a ticket you will be giving your consent to participate in these recorded events.
The workshop videos will be held in a secure archive until 09 May 2021 and will be accessible to all ticket holders until then. It will give all participants the option of revisiting the teaching and enhancing the learning as often as you like for that period. The videos will be removed from the archive after that date.
