Violinist/band leader Nathaniel Gow and Dancing Master Barclay Dun led a
revolution in Scottish Dance. Having introduced the capital to French
Quadrilles in 1817, they incorporated these into the annual balls at the
Edinburgh Assembly Rooms. In 1818, Dun published a collection of dance
instructions in English, to be read in conjunction with Gow’s scores
(including dance instructions in French).
This all-day workshop will cover Barclay Dun’s 3rd Set of four
Quadrilles, plus some extra Scottish Country Dances. Comfortable soft
shoes recommended. All levels of dancer welcome – no experience
necessary. Led by Talitha MacKenzie & Alena Shmakova (Les
Danses Antiques).
