A collaboration between painter Audrey Grant and photographer/printmaker
Norman McBeath which explores the art of portraiture beyond the
conventional artist and sitter relationship through their unique
creative exchange. Audrey asked Norman to sit for a charcoal portrait,
and at the end of each sitting, Norman photographed the sketch and the
creative environment, including her hands, his chair and the charcoal.
She would then erase the drawing, leaving charcoal traces behind, and
begin the portrait anew. The finished portraits, which took two years to
complete, as well as another portrait of Norman and two portraits of
award-winning crime writer Val McDermid, will be on display in this
fascinating and revelatory exhibition.
Part of the Edinburgh Art Festival.
