Appointment of new Director of TRACS

Steve Byrne has been appointed as the new Director of TRACS, and will take up his post in March 2023.

Steve Byrne says:

“I am absolutely delighted to be appointed to lead an organisation that I consider to be key to the future of traditional arts in Scotland. I am looking forward to working with the TRACS team and communities across the country in celebrating our local cultures in all their vibrant forms, hybrids and languages, and sharing Scotland’s living traditions with the world.”

Steve succeeds David Francis and Donald Smith who have shared the leadership of TRACS for a decade. They will continue their support of the organisation through its artform forums. Further details of the positive new developments at TRACS will be shared in the New Year.

TRACS (Traditional Arts & Culture Scotland, SCIO SC043009) is a co-operative network which champions our shared traditions of music, song, storytelling, dance, crafts, customs and local languages. TRACS brings together the Traditional Music Forum (SCIO SC042867), the Scottish Storytelling Forum (SCIO SC052330) and the Traditional Dance Forum of Scotland (SCIO SC045085). Together we celebrate the local distinctiveness of Scotland’s places: our intangible cultural heritage. TRACS and the Forums have their registered office at the Scottish Storytelling Centre, 43-45 High Street, Edinburgh EH1 1SR. The Storytelling Centre is a partnership project between the Storytelling Forum and The Church of Scotland (SC011353).
