RSCDS brings Scottish Country Dancing back into Classrooms
The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) is keen to bring Scottish Country Dancing back into classrooms and youth groups. We have produced materials tailored specifically for teachers and for schools’ accreditation and CPD. The popular ‘Jigs & Reels’ aimed at teachers of primary children is now supplemented by ‘Dance Trad’ for secondary school age and youth groups. These resources link to the Curriculum for Excellence outcomes of successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens. Also for young dancers who wish to test and develop their personal dance skills, a programme of Medal tests is run in Scotland, the UK and globally. RSCDS has many branches and groups around Scotland and the world who can support teachers and schools to develop sessions which are fun, cultural and develop fitness. Recent media coverage in the Scotsman, on Radio Scotland at 11.50am on 12 April, in Edinburgh Evening News and in The Times shows the interest there is in maintaining our tradition whilst also tackling current issues like health and fitness among children. For any schools, teachers and youth leaders interested, please view our flyer summarising all the resources and support available from the RSCDS and get in touch with us on info@rscds.org or ring 0131 225 3854. We look forward to hearing from you.
