Book Claire McNicol

Claire McNicol tells Scottish and Irish stories including Traveller tales, Selkie tales, the wee folk and the giants. She also shares stories she has gathered on her travels to other places.

Many of Claire’s stories are combined with songs which range from traditional ballads to participative songs for children. Claire enjoys storytelling to all ages, from nursery infants to adults with a fresh, engaging and lively style, ensuring she wins instant rapport with any audience.

Born in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, she enjoyed singing and telling stories from an early age. Living in Scotland, she has acquired the tales, melodies and dances of the sister kingdom. Claire’s work fostering the storytelling of children and young people, and facilitating community storytelling, has established her as a pioneer in the renaissance of urban storytelling. She has led an extensive programme of storytelling workshops all over Scotland as part of the Scottish Storytelling Centre’s National Training Initiative.

A member of the Scottish Storytelling Forum, she has appeared at festivals in Ireland, Scotland and overseas, including the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Celtic Connections, Ulster Storytelling Festival, the Scottish International Storytelling Festival, and the Isle of Skye Storytelling Festival.
