Further with Storytelling – Network Development Day

Storytelling is everywhere. It’s a fundamental communication tool we use without even realising, and over  the last few years it has become a buzz word for marketing brands and businesses who realise that underneath it all, we are all people who need to connect with each other “eye to eye, mind to mind and heart to heart.”

Take the pulse of storytelling development in Scotland today and refresh your thinking on the power of taleweaving. If you are developed or developing as a storyteller within your art, your work, or your personal journey, this is a day not to be missed.

Where is storytelling at as a performing art, and as community art of wellbeing and community learning?

This day is a great chance to speak to practitioners, meet other storytellers and hone your skills with practical workshops, as you can be inspired with the various avenues of focus where storytelling is thriving, such as work in schools, tales in the workplace, storytelling in outdoor settings, reminiscence telling with older people and storytelling within museums and faith communities. Then the evening finishes with an informal ceilidh in true Scottish style!

Open Space

The morning Open Space session is an opportunity for participants to have a conversation about the use of storytelling in specific contexts. What are the opportunities, challenges, desires and ideas? Participants will be able to move from one discussion to the other during this time, and moderators at each table will help the conversation flow. The session will end with a brief summary of the main points discussed on each subject.

There will also be a spare, unmoderated table for open and free discussion on any other topic and a table for questions, doubts and ideas about TRACS and the Scottish Storytelling Centre.

Workshops

In the afternoon, four skills-based workshops will be on offer. Each workshop will run twice so that participants will be able to attend two out of the four. A sign-up sheet will be available on the day.

Storytelling Resources Swap

Throughout the day people will have a chance to peruse our stock of spare storytelling resources and take any home for a donation to a charity project. Everyone is also encouraged to bring along any old/duplicate storytelling books they might have and donate them.

Pot Luck Dinner/Ceilidh

We invite all participants (and anyone else in the storytelling community, even if they didn’t take part in the day) to come and join us for a pot luck dinner. We will be providing plastic plates and cutlery and ask everyone to contribute a dish to share with other participants. The evening will then flow into an informal Ceilidh, where there will be an opportunity to share stories, music and song.
