Aberdeen International Youth Festival Traditional Music School

Aberdeen International Youth Festival Traditional Music School

Aberdeen International Youth Festival is continuing our new look Traditional Music School as part of #AIYF2017, under the leadership of Sharon Hassan and the North-east Folk Collective. The school will again be open to young people aged 11-21 musicians from Grade 2 and above.
The course aims to build on the success of last year by providing high quality learning, performing and collaborative opportunities as well as a chance to see other performers from across the world. With experienced professional tutors taking the lead, participants will have the opportunity to explore traditional music with a contemporary twist. Participants are encouraged to take influences from other musical genres and inspiration from the visiting bands and musicians.

In a full programme of activity participants will have the chance to develop their skills, learn new pieces and collaborate with others. There will also be opportunities to see festival shows throughout the week as well as performing in their own concert on the evening on Friday, 4th August.
The concert will be shared with other festival groups and individuals from home and abroad. So, if you are interested in exploring and playing traditional Scottish Music with a contemporary twist then this course is for you.
