Edinburgh Highland Reel & Strathspey Society Annual Concert

The Edinburgh Highland Reel & Strathspey Society, founded in 1881, is the oldest of its type. The orchestra has gone from strength to strength, and for the last three years the society has won the orchestra competition at Kirriemuir Fiddle Festival.

The orchestra is under the baton of Yla Steven, the first winner of the Daily Record’s Golden Fiddle Award. In 2015 Yla was awarded a British Empire Medal in The Queen’s Birthday Honours List for services to Scottish music.

This concert is set to get feet tapping and hearts racing with a variety of slow airs, marches, strathspeys, reels and jigs. EHRSS will be welcoming back on stage the renowned tenor Dennis Haggarty and James Gillespie’s Primary School Choir will be appearing with the orchestra for the first time. Acclaimed piper Martin Duncan will start the evening off in the traditional manner.

Tonight’s host will be Alasdair B Gillies, a Former Mod Gold Medallist, who will lead us through the evening in his own inimitable style. This stirring event will appeal to Scottish music enthusiasts and visitors alike and promises to be a memorable evening.
