The Sangs o' Sheriffmuir an' the '15'

300 years ago this year, and on the eve of the Battle of Sheriffmuir, the Highland officers of the 1715 Jacobite Rising were billeted in the old mill of Kinbuck by the Allan Water, in preparation for the Jacobite army to pass through, under the command of the Earl of Mar, to engage the forces of the Duke of Argyll on Sheriffmuir. From this turbulent time period many songs have survived, in all of Scotland languages. Come and hear 10 songs performed by local bard/sangster: Paraig MacNeil. Come and join in with Scots sing-alongs from Hogg’s Jacobite Relics : Will Ye Go to Sheriffmuir (Traditional/Hogg), Up an’ Waur them a’ Willie (Traditional/Hogg), A Race at Sheriff-muir (Murdoch MacLennan of Crathie), Lady Keith’s Lament (Traditional/Hogg), Donald Macgillavry (James Hogg), The Battle of Sheriff-moor (Barclay/Burns – Musical Museum). Listen to Gaelic Songs: The Song of the Highland Clans (John MacDonald of Eigg), Lament to Clanranald (John MacDonald of Eigg), I am asleep, do not waken we (Sileas MacDonnell of Keppoch), The Men of Breadalbane (MacIvor of Glenlyon). Showcasing part of chapter & phase III of: The Bards o’ Allan Water anthology & community project, 2015, funded by the National Lottery through Creative Scotland. www.scotsbard.com/sheriffmuir.html You can download the poster for the event here.
