Book John Nichol
John Nichol shares the oral traditions of the Scottish Borders, including the stories used by Scottish writers such as James Hogg, Sir Walter Scott and John Buchan. Like these luminaries, John moves easily between folk narrative and rhyming verse stories, which he also composes.
Happy with adults, family audiences or children, John is an entertainer with a comic gift. His style fits well into an evening of stories, songs and music. For school groups, he provides a genial introduction to Scots culture and tradition. John was born in 1957 and brought up in the Border town of Selkirk where he still lives, and he teaches in Jedburgh.
He has acted and sung in many local companies and is a founding member of the Borders Own Rowan Tree Company. He has written and performed several one-man shows, notably ‘The Travels of Mungo Park’ and ‘War and Glaur’. John Nichol has been shaped by, and has contributed to the culture of the Scottish Borders. His use of rich Scottish language is a delight to the ear and sets the tone and style of his storytelling.
He appears regularly in Borders festivals and at the Scottish International Storytelling Festival.
