Harriet Grindley’s stories connect with place, history, myth and community with tales traditional and new.  She particularly enjoys using Gaelic, songs, clarsach or concertina, found objects and image to create an immersive and inclusive environment.

Armed with a degree in Medieval History from St Andrews University, Harriet has been based in Edinburgh since 1988.  She is a qualified Forest School Assistant, an enthusiastic have-a-go multi-instrumentalist and Gaelic learner.

Co-host of the popular series of storytelling ceilidh’s organised by the Burgh Blatherers at the Scottish Storytelling Centre, she tells in care homes, libraries, fairs and festivals.

Harriet is based in Edinburgh and delighted to travel anywhere in Scotland and beyond.

 

Performances include:

Dagba’s Forest Tales – 50 minute 7+ and their families, a storytelling collaboration with Maria MacDonell  linking mythology and natural wonders in an overarching ecological theme using the Japanese Kamishibai storybox.  Performed in 2019 Edinburgh Fringe and throughout Scotland in libraries and schools, theatres, boats and gardens.

Torc Dubh, Fiadh Geal – 90 minute or two 45 minute shows 12+, a solo performance interweaving of Gaelic song and myth to bring the wives of the great Gaelic hero Fionn McCoull to life in their own words.  Performed in 2024 Edinburgh Fringe and available to tour.
