Christmas Concerts to make you feel festive
Enjoy well-known Christmas songs or be enchanted by beautiful forgotten carols at the Scottish Storytelling Centre this December. This year we have two concerts that will entertain those who love the Christmas classics and those seeking to find a new festive favourite.
On Wednesday 4th December expect glitz, glam and swinging rhythms as The Swingettes sing popular Christmas songs at our charity concert in aid of the Maggie’s Centre, Edinburgh.
Or, if you’re a wee bit tired of hearing the same ol’ festive tunes, then come along to hear a beautiful collection of Forgotten Carols on Sunday 15th December. These wintery songs will make you feel like you’ve rediscovered Christmas, giving you a refreshed festive cheer.
The Swingettes & Friends: A Singing Swinging Christmas
Wed 4 Dec | 7.30pm | £12 (£10) | All Ages
The Swingettes are a four-part harmony a cappella group consisting of Paula Dennis (lead), Linda Mackintosh (bass), Mary Ballantyne (baritone) and Linda Carson (tenor). They are previous winners of the Sweet Adelines UK Barbershop Championships and so qualified to compete in the international competition in New Orleans, singing to 10,000, in the Louisiana Superdome.
Not only will the evening be packed with festive cheer and a free drink after the show, but all profits will be donated to the Maggie’s Centre in Edinburgh.
We hope you can join us around the Christmas tree for a lovely evening of Christmas music to raise money for a local charity.
Forgotten Carols

Ali Burns is a song writer and choir director from the south-west of Scotland. Over the past decade Ali went in search of a ‘new’ collection of Christmas carols and came across many beautiful folk carols that have been forgotten over time.
“I began research into old folk carols quite a few years ago, mainly because I was fed up with Christmas and with the same tired old songs coming around and around again. I wanted to put some magic back into midwinter and Christmas and make it meaningful for myself.“ Ali Burns
Ali has taken these carols and arranged these mysterious, beautiful songs for harmony singers – re-inventing and transforming Christmas into something fresh and exciting.
“Last year I went along to Forgotten Carols for the first time. I thought it was one of the most perfect events I’d ever seen – the blend of carols and recitations worked so well together and because I was unfamiliar with most of the material, it brought me to a renewed sense of all the rich meanings of Christmas.” Tom Pow
