Enjoy a unique opportunity to delve into the rich song traditions of Scotland in two upcoming full-day workshops at the Scottish Storytelling Centre – Scots Song with Siobhan Miller on Saturday the 10^th of June, followed the next week by Gaelic Song with Sineag MacIntyre. Siobhan and Sineag are two young women who have been influencing and contributing to the trad music world, especially with regards traditional song, for years and will be sure to offer invaluable insight in their respective sessions.

Siobhan Miller is regarded as one the finest singers to emerge from Scotland’s music scene over the last decade. Her soulful and stirring renewal of traditional song has seen her win the Scots Singer of the Year award twice at the Scots Trad Music Awards. She is also a recipient of a BBC Young Folk Award with Orkney’s Jeana Leslie, with whom she has released two greatly received albums. Siobhan began singing in public in her early teens. Since then, she has developed her style through collaborations and studies with many of Scotland’s top musicians, and released her first solo album, Flight of Time, to great critical acclaim in 2015.

She is a very experienced live performer, having toured internationally in Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, America & Barbados. She has also appeared at many of the UK’s major folk festivals including Cambridge, Cropredy, Towersey, Underneath the Stars, Orkney, Shetland, Stonehaven, The Great British Folk Festival, and has even appeared on hit US TV show Outlander.

Teaching and passing on skills is very important to her, to retain the tradition of folk ballads handed down through the generations, as evident in her work with Live Music Now and her extensive experience in leading singing & Scots traditional song workshops. All this is helped by her first class honours degree in Traditional Music from the Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow.

Sineag MacIntyre from Kilphedar, South Uist started singing from an early age. She released CD Laithean Sgoile when she was in her sixth year in Sgoil Lionacleit and won the Traditional Gold Medal in Dunoon at the Royal National Mod in 2006. She also won the prestigious An Comunn Gàidhealach Mod Gold Medal in 2009. Like Siobhan, she is an honours graduate of Scottish Music from the Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow, and was nominated as Gaelic Singer of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards in 2010.

Sineag is particularly keen on traditional songs that come from her native Western Isles, and  has had the privilege to sing in front of audiences in Canada, Washington DC, Ireland, Germany and Denmark. In 2010 she represented Scotland at the International Celtic Congress in the Isle of Man. She also sings with popular Gaelic folk group, Urban Teuchtars, alongside another acclaimed Gaelic singer, Kathleen MacInnes.
