Enjoy a Scotland and German Fusion of Storytelling at Glendale
Escape the daily grind with a weekend retreat and let Highland Bard George Macpherson show you the special, secret and beautiful places in Skye, alongside special storytelling guest, Regina Sommer from Germany.
SKYE STORYTELLING AT GLENDALE | Sat 3 – Sun 4 June
RESIDENTIAL (£150) includes accommodation at Hamara Lodge on Fri 2 and Sat 3 June, breakfasts and evening meals, plus all Glendale programme activities.
STORYTELLING ACTIVITIES (£30) for programme only tickets for events across the weekend.
Skye Storytelling at Glendale invites travellers and story hunters to experience the stories and places in situ, over a residential weekend of live storytelling and music in a true home of tradition.
Glendale is one of Skye’s most remote and beautiful areas. Steeped in ancient tradition and archaeological remains, the glen has been home to Scotland’s earliest settlers, Pictish tribes, Druids, Celtic saints, Viking traders and raiders, clan societies, crofters and land reformers.
Using the beautiful Hamara Lodge – which dates back to 1770 – as its base, residents for the weekend can enjoy picturesque views amidst a weekend full of storytelling activities in wonderful company, led by Skye’s own tradition-bearer George Macpherson, whose family has lived here for generations and whose knowledge of Highland stories and culture is unrivalled.
During the finale evening’s storytelling ceilidh, special guest Regina Sommer, who hails from Aachen, Germany will partner with George to present the story of the treaty between Eochann, King of Scotland and Charlemagne, Emperor of Europe, pairing the oral traditions of Scotland and Germany.
Regina is a pioneer of the German storytelling scene and organises International Storytelling Festival Zwischen-Zeiten. She established a house of stories and tales in her hometown of Aachen to engage a German-speaking storyteller network and bring storytelling back into people’s memory and daily life. Regina loves tales and sees them as bridges between people, cultures and other worlds, perfectly exemplified with this weekend of story sharing, walks, talks and evening tale weaving.
