Extending Practices: Choreography & Sustainability

How might choreographic practices contribute to environmental movements and sustainability?

A one-day gathering for choreographers, dance and movement artists to collectively question, discuss and share:

– How is the dance community engaging with sustainable thinking and practice?

– How might choreographic practices, thinking and approaches bring new perspectives, shift established discourses and contribute to wider debates around climate change and social and environmental sustainability?

– How might this nourish our dynamic ecosystem of dance and creative practice?

The day will include:
– a practical workshop which offers tasks as a provocation or tool to stimulate thinking around specific lines of enquiry
– picnic lunch
– focused group discussions around 3 key themes
– creation of scores
– future action planning.

The event is being produced and facilitated by independent choreographers and dance artists Saffy Setohy and Claire Pençak, in collaboration with Creative Carbon Scotland.

Writer, researcher and teacher Wallace Heim will also join to provide a rigorous external perspective.

Creative Carbon Scotland is a charity focused on the intersections between cultural practices and environmental sustainability.
