First week of the Fringe!

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe kicked off last Thursday with another jam-packed programme of theatre, comedy, music, family shows and much, much more. Here’s what’s been happening at the Centre so far:

The fantastic Puppet State Theatre are back with their brand new show , based on a short story by JRR Tolkien. It was quickly recommended by FringeReview.co.uk: “Richard Medrington is a storyteller’s storyteller, he is masterful at what he does and it is a pleasure to spend seventy-five minutes in his company.” Read our Q&A with Richard.

have welcomed guests including Lloyd C Robinson and Marianne MacRae to the Netherbow stage, hitting us with an hour of high-octane, top-volume poetry. TV Bomb described the collective as “the most reliably entertaining spoken word show at the Fringe”, giving them four stars, while twitter reactions have been just as positive:

is underway, treating fans of the Bard to a look at his time in Edinburgh, and are coming to the end of a short run of ever-hilarious musical improv – be sure to catch them before their last performance on 11 August!

Mara Menzies’ retelling of a 17th century Angolan warrior, , has also been getting excellent reviews. British Theatre Guide said: “It’s a sonorous pleasure, with live percussion accompaniment from Yamil Ferrera who also takes the stage, moving energetically in tandem with Menzies as a visual stand-in for various men in Nzinga’s life.”

In family shows, the delightful has sold out several dates, with the Primary Times saying “There was really nothing not to love in this show”, while has charmed music fans young and old.
