The Scottish Storytelling Centre and John Knox House are delighted to be part of Edinburgh’s 101 Objects, a popular city-wide visitor experience celebrating 2017 Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology, highlighting how fact is often stranger than fiction (pocketbook of skin, anyone?)

Our objects, the Netherbow Bell and Geneva Bible, are being viewed by many, with more people in the city for the summer Festivals able to enjoy the wonderful array of items.

Now, the initiative is calling out for the public to offer nominations for object number 101. Residents and visitors are being invited to share what objects they believe define Edinburgh. Suggestions already made include Edinburgh’s old ‘Commie’ pool flumes and the iconic Balmoral clock.

The panel of experts behind Edinburgh’s 101 Objects have put forward a few suggestions from those that missed the cut for the original 100. These include the much-loved Greyfriars Bobby statue, Andy Goldsworthy’s “Hutton’s Roof” at the top of the National Museum of Scotland and Edinburgh’s Slavery Map, which details the addresses of slave owners from the 1800s.

Nominations for the final object are open until Monday 4 September 2017.

After nominations close, the public can then vote for their favourite from a curated list of submissions, with the people’s choice being announced late September.
