John Knox House Wins 2017 Experts’ Choice Award

John Knox House is among the winners of the 2017 Experts’ Choice Award from TripExpert.

John Knox HouseThe Award recognises the best attractions around the world based on reviews by journalists and professional travel writers, with less than 2% of all attractions worldwide receiving the accolade.

With praise from publications like Fodor’s and Lonely Planet, John Knox House is currently one of the top-ranking attractions in Edinburgh on TripExpert, who introduced the Experts’ Choice Award last year as an original approach to ratings by using only professional reviews from travel guides, magazines, newspapers and other respected sources, with the hope of allowing travellers to be confident that it is among the most worthwhile activities in Edinburgh.

As one of the top attractions in Edinburgh, John Knox House has also received TripExpert’s Best of Edinburgh award and staff are delighted, including curator Donald Smith as he states:

We are thrilled to receive these accolades and hope it encourages residents of Edinburgh as well as visitors to the City to enjoy this genuine slice of Scottish culture and Step Inside History.”

John Knox dates to 1470 and is associated with the most turbulent times in Scotland’s history – the Scottish Reformation. It is also currently part of Edinburgh 101 Objects project for housing the 1572 Bassendyne printed copy of the 1557 Geneva translation of the Bible, which was the first ever Bible to be printed in Scotland, by Bassendyne printers in the nearby Fountain’s Close.

‘The labyrinthine interior has some beautiful painted-timber ceilings and an interesting display on Knox’s life and work.’ (Lonely Planet)

‘the distinctive dwelling gives you a glimpse of what Old Town life was like in the 16th century.’ (Fodor’s)

‘arguably the most picturesque dwelling house in Edinburgh’s Old Town.’ (Frommer’s)

‘an authentic slice of old Edinburgh.’ (Time Out)
