In 2024, the UK Government ratified the 2003 UNESCO Convention on the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, and in December 2025, it launched the UK’s Living Heritage inventory which now aims to gather submissions from communities across the four parts of the UK to highlight their local traditions and cultural practices.
TRACS has been appointed as one of 11 Community Support Hubs, and we are offering online information sessions for people to gain an understanding of what the process involves.
These will take place in February, and periodically until the 2026 inventory process closes at the end of March. The inventory will be open each year for new additions and updates.
We will offer these in English, Gàidhlig and Scots. The sessions in English and Scots will be hosted by TRACS CEO Steve Byrne along with TRACS colleagues, and Gàidhlig sessions will be hosted by Anna NicGuaire (Anna MacQuarrie) from Creative Scotland.
The first sessions will be on:

Alongside these information sessions, TRACS also offers a weekly ICH Office Hour, where you can book slots to talk to us about a specific issue regarding living heritage in your community. These 20-minutes slots are bookable between 2-4pm each Monday until late March via this link.
There will also be information sessions taking place via our fellow Support Hub in Scotland, Museums Galleries Scotland – see here for more details.
