Top accordionists from Scotland and Scandinavia feature at Northern Streams 2016: Ingunn Bjørgo, who plays the diatonic accordion in top Norwegian dance band, Askerladden;

Markus Räsänen, free bass accordionist from Sweden and well known Scottish accordionist – Sandy Brechin.

These three accordionists will join with other guests in a Northern Streams Ceilidh band for a Scandinavian/Scottish ceilidh at the Festival in late April, at the Grassmarket Centre in Edinburgh. Ingunn Bjørgo will also appear with her duo partner, guitarist Åasmund Reistad, at a concert in Inverness with Amy Henderson – a Scottish accordionist and singer.

Fiona Campbell, Festival Co-organiser said “We think this is an exciting programme of artists who are familiar to Scottish audiences and festival participants who come from further afield, with those they are yet to discover. We are pleased to be helping celebrate the TMSA’s 50th anniversary with our special Festival ceilidh and band collaboration – the first we have put together especially for the event.”

The festival programme includes workshops from beginner to intermediate levels, songs from Scotland and Denmark; Norwegian, Scottish and Swedish tunes plus a chance to learn easy Scandinavian folk dances in preparation for Scandinavian/Scottish ceilidh. There are also 2 sharing sessions and 2 evening concerts. Other guests include Sally Simpson, Scottish fiddler and The Quiggs – Stephen and Pernille Quigg: singing duo – Scotland/Denmark
