Storyteller Brief:
What is ORAgen Fables?
ORAgen Fables is a story writing interactive that will be exhibited at the Scottish Storytelling Centre on 7th Feb as part of ongoing research at the Decentralised Digital Economy (DECaDE) research centre. ORAgen Fables explores the themes of collective authorship and ownership in digital story writing and how emerging technologies could enable us to recognise how our ideas build upon each other.
In ORAgen Fables, visitors are invited to add a contribution (2-3 sentences) via the interactive based on a central image shown on the screen. Visitors can add to other visitor contributions by responding to prompts or branch off and add their own contributions based on what they see. These contributions aim to build context around the image by responding to open questions e.g. what do you think has just happened? When do you think this photo was taken? Who is in the image etc. Anyone who contributes can also vote for their favourite contribution, creating a leader board of favourite contributions over the course of the day.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone to act as ‘the storyteller’ who will take the top 10 most voted for contributions from the interactive and turn them into an entirely new story, which can come in any story format, suitable for all ages.
This will be a fun creative challenge as visitors add their contributions to the interactive they can also decide how their work is reused, creating constrains in how you shape your story.
Ideally you would be available on the 7th February at the Scottish Storytelling Centre to interact with visitors and gather their thoughts, ideas and to encourage their engagement with the project. We will then provide you with a written copy of these contributions and constraints w/c10th February and we would be looking for a completed story by 21st February. We would expect this to be a further days work. We are offering a total fee of £450 plus travel.
Why do we need a Storyteller?
The story you produce will be used as part of a research online interview study with those who contribute to ORAgen Fables at the pop-up at the storytelling centre. Our aim is to use the story to investigate how different audiences value attribution and licensing when their work is reused, and to what extent detailed provenance data could support stronger sense of ownership and collaborations. The story may also be shared as part of a blog and news updates on the DECaDE website. However, the story is for non-commercial and research use only.
Why take part?
You will be supporting research into digital authorship and ownership and the growing challenges around these ideas.
This is a fun creative challenge that takes a collective approach to storytelling.
You will be compensated for your time.
