Scots Radio is produced by well known broadcaster and singer Frieda Morrison and features Scots ‘fae Shetland tae the Borders and athin in atween.’ The programme was launched on the internet two years ago and attracts thousands of listeners throughout the world with its special blend of information, interviews and music.

The monthly podcast has been nominated in the ‘Radio Magazine Show’ category at the Celtic Media Festival and it will be competing against programmes from BBC Alba and BBC Scotland, as well as BBC Ireland and Wales, for the Festival’s ‘Torc’ Award for Excellence.

Frieda Morrison, who hails from Deeside, Aberdeenshire, sees the nomination as an important step in the promotion of the Scots Language:

I’m just thrilled and honoured that Scots Radio has been nominated in such a prestigious festival and I would like to thank all the contributors and listeners for their support. It’s a big class of entries and we’ll be competing with the biggest broadcasting companies in the land – but we are proud of our programmes and we travel in hope.

Frieda is joined on the programme throughout the year by folklorist and musician, Steve Byrne, and the programme is recorded in Edinburgh by Richard Werner at B&B Studios.

Celtic Media Festival director, Catriona Logan said:

The record breaking entries were whittled down by our dedicated national juries who watched and listened to over 370 hours of top quality submissions.

We’re looking forward getting to work with the Celtic Media Festival international jury for the difficult task of choosing the winners.

The hour long podcast receives funding from Creative Scotland and before it developed its own website on, it was hosted by the Scots Language Centre. The winners will be revealed at the Festival in Dunvargan, Co. Waterford, Ireland, on Friday 22 April.
