The National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music is pleased to announce the dates for this year’s whole school concert tour. This year’s tour is fairly widespread, partly following on from last year’s S6 tour, but also due to an exciting recording project the Centre has been involved in this session. There are shows in Dunoon, Glasgow, Birnam and Pitlochry before the tour concludes with the final concert at Plockton High School.
The concerts will feature the 22 students in various combinations, including them playing all together in a powerful finale. The Centre teaches accordion, clarsach, fiddle, pipes, piano, guitar, whistle, flute, and Scots and Gaelic song, and all of these will feature strongly on the programme. All of the youngsters are multi-talented and there are a few other instruments involved as well, so there really is something for everybody in the show.
The Dunoon show will also feature support from young members of the Lochgoilhead Fiddle Workshop, and pupils of Dunoon Grammar School.
The Birnam concert is particularly exciting as it will feature the launch of “The Snow Is Melting Into Music,” a new CD by the S6 students featuring music and songs associated with the properties managed by the John Muir Trust. More information on the Trust’s activities is available at
http://www.jmt.org/.The students will also do schools workshops as part of the tour. The performance details are:
