Cultural Connections presents An Audience with Mr and Mrs Andrew Carnegie, a drama with live music based on the life of the Dunfermline born businessman and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. Alan Reid (ex Battlefield Band ) plays Carnegie, with Dave Dewar, Craigie Folk Club joint organiser, playing the part of the interviewer. Singer and actor Elaine Graham plays Mrs Carnegie.
Andrew Carnegie was born into a humble background in Dunfermline, his father a local hand loom weaver. The family emigrated to America when Andrew was aged 12. By 35 he was a millionaire, and by aged 65 when he sold Carnegie Steel, he was the richest man in the world. He then gave away his wealth.
His story is not without a dark side, as his labour relations practices were shocking by present day standards.
