Launching the new BMus in Traditional Music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
RCS are proud to launch this new Bachelor of Music undergraduate curriculum in Traditional Music – the only one of its kind in the UK. Students can opt to study a BMus in Traditional Music or a BMus Traditional Music – Piping.
This four year programme builds on the foundations of the Royal Conservatoire’s original BA (Scottish Music), but places performance, creativity and 21st century digital business skills at the heart of the student experience. It offers students the opportunity to study traditional music or piping in Glasgow, the epicentre of Scotland’s traditional music scene.
The Royal Conservatoire works closely with the National Piping Centre, Celtic Connections and Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, allowing its students to work with these internationally recognised partners to ensure the highest quality learning experience.

Why study Traditional Music?
As the only BMus in Traditional Music in the UK, this is an opportunity for you to develop your musical persona through your principal instrument or voice with the very best musicians and teachers.
Every week you will receive a 90-minute individual lesson with your tutor on your principal study, and further 30-minute weekly lessons are available by audition on both a related instrument and second study of choice.
This degree is focused on making you a performer. You will work together with your peers to play as a band; you will be able to compose, create, perform and refine your practice throughout your four years here.
