As the Scottish Storytelling Centre turns 10, we’ve been sharing memories of the venue from the past decade. Our final story comes from Fiona Hyslop MSP, a longtime supporter of the Centre, who has attended various events here in her capacity as Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs.
“I have wonderful memories of the Scottish Storytelling Centre from over the last 10 years and I have been fortunate to attend many of the different cultural events it has played host to during this time. Cultural events across many art forms which have portrayed Scotland as a rich and vibrant cultural nation through the spoken word, visual imaginary and music.
“I have taken tea with the then Japanese Consul General Masataka Tarahara at a ceremony at the launch of the 2010 Scottish International Storytelling Festival, performed by storyteller Mio Shapley (pictured above). I also spoke at the launch of From the Horse’s Mouth – A Roma, Gypsy Traveller Landscape which tells stories of the contribution of the gypsy traveller community and horsemanship to WW1.”
