Book Fiona Herbert
Fiona has a wide repertoire of stories which includes Scottish myth, legend, folktales
and historical tales, plus her own modern adaptations and pure inventions! There is a
strong element of comedy in many of Fiona’s tales which has led her to win the annual
Tall Tales Storytelling Competition on two occasions. She also loves to tell scary tales,
and tales with a deeper resonance. She has performed internationally on radio and
television, written and narrated for BBC Scotland’s Time for a Story, and in 2024 she
was shortlisted for the Kelpies Prize for Writing.
Previous work as a tour guide in Edinburgh has also provided Fiona with a wealth of
stories about the city.
As well as entertainment, Fiona provides workshops and training for adults who want
to improve their storytelling skills, whether for personal enjoyment or in a professional
setting. She has many satisfied clients from the worlds of business, education,
entertainment, tourism, health and social care.
Fiona’s background in teaching has also led her to provide workshops for children aged seven upwards, where she relishes the joy of bringing out the storyteller in every child she encounters. Her warm, dramatic style of telling entertains and fires the imagination, leading to inspired, confident young tellers taking flight. As a teller in schools, Fiona can tailor her tales to suit any curriculum area and to meet all the requirements of the Curriculum for Excellence.
Fiona’s previous writing and storytelling commissions include clients such as the
Edinburgh International Festival’s Education Department, Holyrood Palace, The
National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh World Heritage, Edinburgh Museums, Aberdeen
Arts Across Learning Festival and the National Trust, and the Scottish International
Storytelling Festival.
