For the second year young traditional musicians based in Scotland are invited to take part in UKM Arctic’s international youth festival in Finnsnes, Northern Norway.

We are looking for…

– 5 musicians aged 14-18
– Who either play together (in smaller groups like a duo or trio, or as a whole group) or who would be willing to rehearse together before the trip
– Any instrument may apply but we are looking for at least 1 piper and at least 1 singer

Arrangements
15th-19th April 2015
We will fly from Edinburgh (flights to be arranged)
Your flights and accommodation will be paid for
Participants will be accompanied by a PVG-checked leader from Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin
You will perform several concerts during the trip, meeting other young musicians from Norway, Finland, Sweden and Russia, and getting a feel for life in the Arctic.

To apply…
Please write around 100 words telling me
– why you want to take part in the festival
– about your musical experience
– your date of birth and where you are based
– whether you are applying with other people you would be able to rehearse with
Please also send a clear recording (video or sound, video preferred) of yourself playing

Groups – if you play as a group it would also be beneficial to send a recording of you playing together (in addition to a recording of you playing solo).

Send by email to charlotte@eyg.org.uk

DEADLINE midnight 23rd February

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Last year over 70 people applied, so competition is fierce. Please send in a sample of you playing which really reflects your skill. Note that we are anticipating a large number of applications and decisions will be made based on (but not limited to)
– musical skill of applicants
– effort put into personal statement
– georgraphical location of players (for practical purposes we need to take a group who are able to rehearse together or who have played together before as there will be a performance on the first night)
– balance of instruments – although we may receive applications from 5 excellent fiddle players, my job is to form a mixed instrument band representing a breadth of Scottish music.

All the best,
Charlotte Hathaway.
