Storytelling Comes Home with 2nd Festival in Inverness

Now into its second year Inverness Storytelling Festival returns with a quality selection of storytellers, musicians, singers and poets from near and far.

After a successful launch in 2015, the embers of last year’s event still smoulder in the hearth as this year’s festival expands over 8 days.  It opens with Bob Pegg’s “Black Dog Days”, (long form storytelling weaving together tales from Argyll) on Friday 11th, 7pm at La Tortilla Asesina, followed by an evening of Highland stories and Gaelic song as George Macpherson is joined by Christina Stewart and Dougie Mackay.

Saturday will see family friendly sessions in the daytime starting with tales of the Magic Drum at midday, a story walk along the River Ness with George, then an exploration of local stories via Lizzie McDougall’s Gold and Silver Darlings story quilt (a culmination of a local community craft and story project).

The evening of international tales and music will kick off with a journey to the Finnish Forests guided by Markus Luukkonen, followed by wonder tales from around the world with Carol Scorer and Dan Serridge, with live music from Morocco and Peru from Omar Afif and Sergio Zavalleta respectively.  The night will finish with merry dance to the Hearty Global sound of the Woodland Roots Band.

Sunday we’ll be getting out on the land with Am Fasgadh, a project based within Dunain Community Woodland, then later in the week we’ll have a ceilidh hosted by Joe Hill’s Wake and Dougie Burns, and an eve of Harp playing and Bardic tales before the Dare To Dream Gathering and finale ceilidh on Saturday 19th.

The festival aims to bring storytelling to new audiences, providing a diverse and high quality line-up to the heart of the Highlands, helping rekindle a passion for tales in the North of Scotland, celebrating the spirit of the ceilidh and Highland hospitality.
