The Scots Music Group are reintroducing Scottish Stepdance classes to their programme, starting in September, with tutor Mairi Britton.
Classes are open to anyone aged 18 or over and are held over three continuous terms, which align to the school year, September to June, for 12, 10 and 8 weeks.

Stepdancing is a form of percussive dance originating in Scotland but shaped by the experieces of emigrants in Canada, especially in Cape Breton. The style’s vibrant energy and precise footwork make it a joy to watch, but even more fun to participate in! This class will cover a range of individual strathspey, reel and jig steps as well as situating them in the context of group square dancing, as is the custom in Cape Breton. All levels will be catered for: beginners will focus on basic steps and figures while more advanced dancers will be taught more complex steps and be encouraged to improvise with their order and presentation. Catered for by live musicians, the aim of the class will be to create a fun, non-competitive atmosphere where all dancers can build their skill, confidence and individual style and join the burgeoning stepdance revival taking place in Scotland today.
